Our OutcomesRetention from 2009 to 2010 was an organizational high of 88%. Participants in Fiver programming for 7 or more years, 88% graduated high school or received their GED. In the same population, 73% are enrolled in college, graduated from college, or are in the military (read more on Fiver's College Access programming here). In comparison to a NYC norm group including more/less affluent populations, results from a nationally recognized survey instrument (2008 YRBSS) show Fivers report lower levels of alcohol and drug use; higher levels of participation in team sports and regular physical activity; better and more nutritious dietary behaviors; significantly lower levels of sexual behavior; and lower levels of tobacco and alcohol use (read more on Fiver's Health programming here). Summer 2010 also saw the start of a Fiver internship training program as part of Summer in the City. The training program helped participants not selected for an internship placement at one of Fiver's worksite partners to learn skills and practice professional etiquette to improve their future placement chances. |
